This was our second show at Fat Daddy’s and we got to play it with one of our favorite bands...Funny Money. These are the coolest bunch of guys in the business. Not only are they amazing to watch on stage but they’re great guys to hang with after the shows.
Being Easter Eve (is that an official holiday?), as expected, the show was a little lighter than last time we were here. But our fans didn’t let us down. We were a little tired from the travel this week by the time we arrived but we were quickly energized when we saw how many of our friends and fans turned out for the show in spite of the holiday. It really pumped us up for not just the show but also the idea that soon we’ll be playing 5 or 6 nights a week, hitting new clubs all over the country. Seeing the loyalty of our fans really makes us want to get out there NOW so we can see you all the time! Thanks, everyone!!

One of the hardest things about playing a new club is that we don’t know the regular crowd until we get there. The MOST difficult part about that is when the regular crowd is hell bent on dismissing you before you play your first note. However, for us, converting the non-believers becomes the challenge the impetus to be even better. Getting the guys to pump their fists in the air and the girls to lick their lips by the end of the show. And, admittedly, it wasn’t easy, but we did it. Some were more obvious than others but, even the ones who tried to hide it, you can always tell they’re into by watching their feet tap or their heads bop. And because we had this challenge ahead of us, we took some liberties in the set list. We decided to play a song that we’ve only ever played live once before -Hopelessly Gone. So, for those who have asked us to play it, it’s in. We enjoyed playing it so much and the reception was so good that we’re going to start including it in our set list.
After the show, as usual, we went to a diner. In hindsight, it’s almost ridiculous how we devour food after a show, not paying any attention to the fact that we have more shows in the days ahead and we may not be able to fit into our tight “rocker jeans”. We chowed down like it was our last meal. When it was time for dessert, we saw that they were making a fresh batch of cookies and were putting the designs on them. We convinced the cook to let us put a ZO2 logo on one of the cookies and they wound up displaying it in their front desk glass counter. So for those of you in West Virginia, keep your eyes peeled because somewhere, there’s a diner with a one of a kind ZO2 cookie on display.

This was definitely a weird show for us. We had just played the night before with Vs. The Earth who is primarily a cover band. That gig went well even though we could tell that a good portion of the crowd was not interested in hearing original music. However, we still won over a lot of people. At De Lazy Lizard, we had a similar situation although this time the crowd was much harder to please. This was a hip-hop and top 40 audience of college kids who had little interest in original rock music.
The venue itself was really nice -wood décor and high stage - but a nice venue doesn’t really mean much without a decent (or at least moderately receptive) audience. And to drive the point home and make sure we understood we weren’t the usual fare, the club’s soundman told our sound guy that we were way too loud and made him cut our volume in half! We couldn't believe it. In the end we were still able to win over a handful of people and that always makes the show worth playing. I doubt we'll play there again but one good thing did come out of it - the stage manager of the club loved us and said that there’s a different club down the block that's perfect for us. So fear not, West Virginians, we'll be back. Remember: as one door closes, another opens...
